The Passion Team is a group of 11 young women based out of Vancouver, BC Canada who are working on an innovative new project that will raise aware on the issues young women are facing in today’s world.
There are too many girls who are suffering with issue’s that are often brought on by societal pressures to be and act a “certain” way in order to fit in to what the media puts out as “normal”. Add on family challenges, normal teenage pressures in self discovery and young women carrying this weight alone and we wonder why eating disorders, relationship violence, self mutilation, and teenage pregnancies are high.
Over the next six months the group will work on the Elements of Success.
The Elements focus on seven areas of development- Self Evaluation, Understanding, Courage, Community, Exploration, Self Worth, Service, followed by the importance of continuing to strive not just in present but for the future.
Each workshop will run approximately two hours in length using creative mediums, brainstorming, and discussion to provide tools for working through personal challenges and developing self realization. The goal of providing the young women, who are participating in the Passion Project, with the Elements of Success is to enhance their self awareness, and assist in a deeper connection to who they are and what they want from life. These tools will create a balanced “foundation” to house the next part of the project.
After eight weeks of workshops, the participants will work together to come up with the performance details, their monologues, and a poster campaign that will be distributed to schools across the Lower Mainland. In addition to this training we will have other agencies focusing on social issues that effect young women offer information sessions for the team.
Offering a connection to community agencies supporting young women is an important part of this project. The Passion Project is not only looking to offer leadership enhancement skills but provide resources for young women to improve their lives and the lives of those around them.
The Passion Foundation has been donated free studio/ classroom space through to Rhodes Career College in downtown Vancouver for workshops and training for this project.
